Mixed by Mike Fraser (AC/DC, Franz Ferdinand, Elvis Costello) it goes without saying that the production on this track is crisp and clear thus managing to create an organic sound verging on garage/lo-fi whilst retaining a veneer of consummate professionalism that allows the listener a truly unique aural experience. This is no mean feat given that ‘Baby Don’t Dance’ comes intricately layered with harmonies, hooks and heady multi-instrumentation.
Mother Mother – a five-strong band of multi-talented musicians - have produced the perfect platform to display both their talents and their unique revamped sound that captivates with its male-female falsetto, Killers-esque synth-hooks and joyful, almost childlike demeanour. It is a minor distraction to see a group’s leading single contain a chorus that is so lyrically limp, however this hiccup is more than made up for by the lush, sonic groove that pulls it through.
‘Baby Don’t Dance’ shows a band maturing hand over fist, and having listened to ‘Eureka’ one would not be faulted for tipping them for the top given their creativity and fresh uncompromising attitude towards the Indie-pop scene.
